After what felt like a very long winter, the signs of spring are finally here. It may not feel too warm this week, but now is the time to start thinking about changing up your skincare routine. During the winter months with the cold, dry weather outside and the warm, dry weather inside, our skin craves hydrators to lock in the moisture. But as the weather starts to change, there are some key changes to your skincare routine to help keep your skin feeling healthy and glowy.

Increased sun exposure, heat and humidity can make skin concerns such as excess pigmentation, acne, sun damage, dryness and sensitivity more common. Furthermore freckles, sunburn, and acne flare-ups can leave us feeling self-conscious. Fortunately, there are numerous methods available to treat and prevent these conditions safely and effectively during the warmest months.

  1. Daily routine - If you don’t already have a daily skincare routine, now is the time to start one. Having a morning and evening skincare routine is a great way to start and end the day. Your skincare routine should be something you look forward to, rather than dread, and can set you up nicely for the day ahead. Getting into a good routine ensures you’re using the right products for your skin, and will keep you on track.

  2. Spring clean - now is the time to start exfoliating, or increase how often you are exfoliating. In the winter months we often go lighter with exfoliation due to the risk of feeling dry. Exfoliating helps clean the skin and get rid of the build up of dead skin cells, revealing a brighter, clearer complexion. Exfoliating has the added bonus of stimulating collagen and therefore keeping your skin youthful. ZO skin health has a fantastic range of exfoliators for different skin types, and if you’re not already exfoliating, now is the time to introduce one.

  3. Go lighter with the cleansers and moisturisers - through winter our skin craves hydration, so you might have been using an oil-based cleanser to cling on to the little moisture we have. As we go into spring, these cleansers are likely becoming too heavy so it’s time to switch to an exfoliating cleanser or a Lighter option. It’s the same for hydrators and moisturisers, during winter our skin benefits from the heavier hydrators but as the weather gets warmer and we’re spending more time outside getting hot, these thicker products will sit on our skin and start clogging our pores. It’s time to switch to a light-weight moisturiser and let your skin breathe.

  4. Sun protection factor (SPF) - one of the most powerful anti-ageing steps you can take is using sun protection, and it is the most essential skincare product for any skin type. With longer days and stronger UV rays, you need to be choosing a product with broad spectrum protection from different types of light and radiation.

No matter your skin type or concern, ZO skin health can help you reach your goals. Here is a snapshot of some ZO products that I would recommend, but if you’re struggling to find the right skincare for you, book a consultation to allow us to assess your skin and formulate your at-home regime.
